About Me

When I wake up in the morning, I feel overwhelmed by the limitless options of ways to spend my time–

Eat breakfast. Skip breakfast. Ride my bike to work. Take the train to work. Go to the lecture by Elie Wiesel that’s taking place on my campus. Fix my bike. Do homework at the library. Do homework at a cafe with friends. Go home and take a nap. Register to vote. Pay the cable bill. Check Facebook. Apply for magazine internship. Call home.

Even on days when I have class or I have to work (most days), I think about the number of ways and choices I have of how to respond to those things I have to do, and I see that there are usually two choices within every option:  There’s the A) typical, familiar, routine, unexciting, safe, lazy, perhaps just plain tired and worn-out response.  Then there’s the B) risky, unpredictable, spontaneous, enlightening, nerve-wrecking, dangerous, brave, invigorating, and fun response.  Most often I choose B.  In fact, it’s the opportunity to even choose option B that really inspires me because I see that things don’t just happen to people.  There’s always a choice in how to respond.  And sometimes, there’s a choice in what you want to make happen.  So far, it’s my success at responding with option B that sustains my craving for spontaneity because there’s something incredibly satisfying about knowing that more often than not, when I try something new, say yes to something I’d previously refused, or visit a new way of thinking about something I realized I hadn’t fully considered, I end up happier, smarter, more aware, and more able to understand more people.  So that is what I seek to do.

Another way of saying that is: As a junior at Boston University, I major in Journalism and International Relations.   I try to spread awareness about social issues, bands, local events, and also about people and politics, in order to combine the serious and not-so-serious in a way that invokes people to care about topics they might find uninteresting while exploring topics they are fascinated by.  So far I’ve written articles for the Boston Herald, The Daily Free Press, and a few other Boston-based publications, and I’d like to get more into magazine writing, especially now that I’ve spent time practicing photography. I currently work for a non-profit called Be the Change, which is the group that started Service Nation (the group that helped make Obama declare September 11 a National Day of Service).

If you have a news tip about something you think I’d like to write about, I like to write about a lot of things, plus, I’m curious. Please let me know:
